A Comparison of Grid-Connected Local Hospital Loads with Typical Backup Systems and Renewable Energy System Based Ad Hoc Microgrids for Enhancing the Resilience of the System

Extreme weather conditions and natural disasters (ND) are the main causes of power outages in electric grid. It is necessary to strengthen electrical system’s resilience during these catastrophic occurrences, microgrids may be seen as best way achieve this goal. In paper, two different energy system scenarios were proposed for increasing resiliency random outages. first scenario, a diesel generator (DG) was used deliver key loads grid disruptions, conjunction with utility (UEG) local load (ELL). A grid-connected ad hoc microgrid (MG) photovoltaic (PV) system, battery storage (BES) made up second scenario. The PV BES supply electricity outage. major aim research compare resilient-based systems from perspectives technology, economics, environment. Given that it requires greater than other severe weather, hospital on Indonesia’s Lombok Island chosen critical load. objective function considers predefined constraints reduce overall net present cost (NPC) order maximize (COE). Optimization Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) Grid simulated 3-day outage August 2021, results demonstrated enhancement both nearly identical. scenario resulted fewer CO2 emissions; however, delivered lower operating costs COE. simulation’s findings showed 1 created an annual emission 216.902 kg/yr while 2 only produced 63.292 kg/yr. This study shows since RES-based MGs don’t burn fossil fuels generate power, they more environmentally friendly resources.
